APRIL CHAT QUESTIONS:  Consumerism and the Environment

Consumerism – the idea that increasing the consumption of goods and services purchased in the market is always a desirable goal, and that a person’s well-being and happiness depend fundamentally on obtaining consumer goods and material possessions.

1. In what ways is consumerism perpetuated in our society, and how should we be educated about it?

2. As smart consumers, how can we become more sustainable in our everyday practices?

3. “Demand quality, not just in products you buy, but in the life of the person who made it.” What does this mean to you?

Fast Fashion (in the clothing industry) – the business model of replicating recent catwalk/runway trends and high-fashion designs, mass-producing them at a low cost, and bringing them to retail stores quickly, while demand is at its highest.

4. How does fast fashion affect different societies in the world?

5. Do you think that social media has an impact on how much we throw away? If so, how?

*The same questions will be used for the Slow Chat all month long. We recommend classes spend time answering the questions ahead of time so time during the chat can be spent liking tweets, retweeting, quoting tweets in reply, and collaborating with others.
